Rockland Mills Real Estate
Rockland Mills Real Estate
Rockland Mills, originally called Kirk’s Ford, was a grist mill built in 1724. In the early 1800’s it was converted to a paper mill, which burned to the ground in 1814. It was rebuilt but stopped making paper in 1822 when it was converted to making cotton, subsequently burning again in 1846. History is a bit hazy but the paper mill was definitely in operation again by 1867. It continued to produce paper, then tissue until it shut down in 1971. The original mill building was remodeled into luxury condominiums in 1987-88 and a number of new town home condominiums were added 1987-93, The location is super convenient to shopping on Concord Pike (Route 202) and has great access via back roads to Greenville. The guard gate at the entrance adds to the feeling of security here. The 933 acre Brandywine River State Park is literally right across the street. this is elegant living.
